Qazvin, May 31, IRNA -- Qazvin Cultural Heritage Organization (CHO)
Director-General Nader Mohammadzadeh said here Monday that the
powerful earthquake in this northwestern city inflicted no damage to
the historical Gazorkhan Castle.
The powerful earthquake, measuring 5.5 degrees on the Richter
scale, hit nine northern cities killing at least 30 people and
injuring 200 others. Other disaster agencies have placed the number at
35.
The official rejected news reports saying historical objects of
the Alamout region were damaged, and said there was only a landslide
in Houdakan mountain which caused no damage.
He noted that earthquakes with of lesser intensity cannot damage
historical monuments of the region due to the security measures that
have been put in place to protect them.
The Gazorkhan Castle is among the many historical mouments of
Iran which are listed as UNESCO world heritage sites.
