Iranian-American Leaders Discuss Future of the Community

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – August 4th, 2005 – Bay Area Iranian-American Democrats (BAIAD) today announced it will be hosting an educational forum with Honorable Ross Mirkarimi, Supervisor, District 5, City & County of San Francisco, and Professor Elahe Enssani, Commissioner, San Francisco Immigrant Rights Commission, about the future of the Iranian-American community entitled “Are We Ready?”  The forum will be held on Sunday, August 14th at the University of San Francisco, Room UC 222 beginning at 4:00pm.

“During the recent few years, the Iranian-American community has made impressive advances towards the vision of becoming a powerful, responsible and influential community in America,” said BAIAD President Mehrdad Moayedzadeh.  He added: “But this is no time to get complacent, as this is a long-term journey that has only begun!  This forum is intended to be a profound inquiry—not only for Iranian-American grassroots, but also for Iranian-American leaders—into the elements of a winning strategy to achieve that vision.”

The forum will include presentations by two prominent leaders of Iranian decent.  Mr. Mirkarimi was named one of 15 “National Rising Stars” in America by Campaigns and Elections magazine in 2004.  He is the first Iranian-American Supervisor in San Francisco—arguably the highest ranking elected office to be held by an American of Iranian decent.  Professor Enssani, P.E. is Chair of Civil Engineering Department of the San Francisco State University.  She is also the President of Applied Technology & Science, as well as a Commissioner in the San Francisco Immigrant Rights Commission. The event is set for the afternoon of Sunday, August 14, in Room UC 222 at the University of San Francisco, located at the junction of Golden Gate Avenue and Kittredge Terrace, San Francisco, CA 94118. The forum will be in English and will run from 4:00-6:30pm. Doors will open at 3:30pm. This meeting is open to public with admission free for BAIAD members, $10 for non-members.  Latest event information—including maps and parking— are at:
