TEHRAN, June 1 (Mehr News Agency) -- After a period of treatment in Iran, Supreme Iraqi Islamic Council (SIIC) Chairman Abdel-Aziz al-Hakim returned to Iraq on Friday.
A source in the office of Hakim's son said the Shia leader had returned to his office in the Iraqi city of Najaf and would stay there for a long time.
After preliminary medical examinations in Houston, Texas, Hakim traveled to Iran on May 21 to undergo medical treatment.
The Supreme Islamic Iraqi Council (SIIC), formerly known as the Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI), was founded in 1982 and currently has 30 seats in the Iraqi Parliament.
