A story was recently published about students of Kherad school in Gonbad Kavoos region of Iran where classes were being held in an old bus under tough circumstances. The 27 students who attend the school belong to the nomad tribes. (see reports Part I, and Part II).
Bringing attention to the situation of Kherad students caught the attention of officials, and based on the order of the Ministry of Education, two pre-fabricated units were appropriated and installed at the school grounds. The students were excited that their wishes for having a proper classroom had finally come true.
The education ministry officials should be praised for taking quick action to address the needs of these students. But this is certainly not enough. Every child deserves an education. And the education ministry should be proactive in providing suitable accommodations for all schools rather than waiting for stories to surface and only address the needs of highlighted schools. It should also be pointed out that according to Mehr, some of the ministry and provincial officials haven't been happy that this story came out. Do we have to wonder why?
In this particular case, the real credit goes to Mehr News Agency reporter Aboutaleb Nadri who captured the story of these children with his beautiful photos which ultimately resulted is positive change!
