Press TV, a news network wholly funded by the Iranian regime, is proving that it's real mission is propagating the lies and propaganda of the ruling establishment. This is especially evident in the coverage of Iranian opposition where Press TV reports are void of any objective reporting and prove that this news agency is acting solely as a mouthpiece of the regime.
The highly biased and deceitful coverage of the Iranian opposition by Press TV displays lack of professional and journalistic integrity on the part of their reporters who have sold their soles to the highest bidder! There is ample proof about this on Press TV's website for which this propaganda agency has come under scrutiny before. But it suffices to just dissect one of their reports to see the real story. Here is a report on the Iranian opposition published by Press TV on February 19, 2011. Let's dissect it and see:
Iran to prosecute Sedition leaders (Source: Press TV, Feb 19, 2011)
Sedition: Press TV shamelessly uses the label of sedition for Iranian opposition leaders, a label used by the ruling establishment to discredit the peaceful opposition movement.
Iran's Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad-NajjarIran's Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar has described Tehran riots as illegal, saying that the Ministry will deal with sedition leaders according to the law.
Riots: Read peaceful protests by Iranian opposition attacked by security forces!
Sedition leaders: Opposition leaders!
The supporters of the defeated candidates in the 2009 presidential elections, Mir-Hossein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi, and the terrorist group Mujahedin Khalq Organization (MKO) gathered in small numbers in a few parts of the Iranian capital on February 14.
Defeated candidates: Candidates who lost in a highly disputed election lacking independent monitors!
Terrorist group Mujahedin Khalq Organization (MKO): How does Press TV know MKO was actively involved in the protests considering this was a rally called by the Green Movement? What are Press TV's sources, other than Iranian regime? Why are the sources not indicated?
Small numbers: What is small? A handful? A few hundred or a thousand? Were Press TV reporters covering this on the ground? All other reports put number of protesters in tens of thousands at least. And videos on youtube speak volumes!
Few parts: What is few? Which parts of Tehran were protests held? How about other cities? And why is independent coverage of these rallies not allowed so we can see what's really going on? These aren't of concern for a state-sponsored Press TV of course!
"The global arrogance, the Zionists and hegemonic powers have
suffered blows from our Revolution, and each year they become more angry because
of the presence of tens of millions of people in the 22 Bahman (February 11)
rallies," Fars News Agency quoted Mohammad-Najjar as saying on Saturday.
Referring to the assassination of an Iranian student during riots, the Iranian minister said the terrorist attack against Sane Jalleh was planned by the MKO to sow religious and tribal discord among people but they failed.
Assassination: Press TV is following the regime's line. Killing of opposition supporters by security forces is called assassination and then the dead are claimed by the regime as its martyrs. Best practice of two birds with one bullet!
Terrorist Attack: Press TV is presenting this as factual rather than stating this as a claim by the regime!
Riots: more lies about people's peaceful protests!
The opposition claimed that it had applied for a permit to hold a public rally "in support of the people in Tunisia and Egypt," but Iranian officials refused to issue the permit and declared all such rallies illegal.
Opposition claimed: Now that it comes to the opposition, Press TV suddenly remembers journalistic integrity and since it hasn't been able to verify the story, it notes the opposition claimed to have applied for a permit. But by saying in the same sentence that the regime's officials refused to issue the permit, Press TV refutes their own statement that opposition had claimed to have applied for permit!
This is while the US government has again voiced support for anti-government efforts in Iran.
US government has again voiced support: Press TV is insinuating the Iranian opposition is US funded/sponsored. This is a familiar story for all dictatorships. Mubarak said the same thing about Egyptian opposition!
Anti-government efforts: Press TV decides what opposition protests are about. Better call it anti-government than pro-reform and pro-democracy!
"My hope and expectation is that we are going to continue to
see the people of Iran have the courage to be able to express their yearning for
greater freedoms and a more representative government," US President Barack
Obama said during a White House press conference on Tuesday.
The 'sedition movement' refers to the unrest following the 2009 presidential elections, during which despite government assurances about the transparency of the vote, riots continued in the country, especially in the capital, Tehran.
Refers: By whom? Forgot to mention by the regime! Your reporters must have failed Journalism 101, if they ever took it!
Unrest: Better call peaceful protests unrest since that gives justification for suppression of them by the regime!
Despite government assurances about the transparency of the vote: Press TV clearly towing the government line. Mubarak also gave many assurances! Why should the people trust a government which isn't representative of them? And looking at the many lied embedded in this one piece of "news" is enough to not trust your kind of government!
Riots: Repeat a lie a thousand times and hope it becomes truth!
Defeated presidential candidates Mousavi and Karroubi are known as the leaders of the sedition movement.
Defeated presidential candidates: More lies and propaganda!
Are known: Are labeled by the regime!
Sedition movement. : Regime's vocabulary for opposition!
Conclusion: This dead corpse called Press TV is spewing poison in the air against the Iranian opposition!
