IAAB is excited to collaborate with Tehran-based AKSbazi to create an unprecedented space where students in Camp Ayandeh and youth in Iran can interact through the medium of digital photography.
"We are thrilled to provide our campers this opportunity to
engage with youth in Iran through the lens of visual storytelling," says IAAB
co-Founder, Narges Bajoghli. "Despite various restrictions for face-to-face
engagement, IAAB and AKSbazi offer the medium of photography and the tools of
social media to create different narratives about being Iranian, Iranian
American, and everywhere in between."
Created by Haleh Anvari, AKSbazi began in 2009 with an express hope to provide a forum for ordinary Iranians to recreate their own image, away from prevalent cliches and exotic short-hands used by various acting editors. In a series of photographic games, AKSbazi.com members show Iranian spaces and moods not ordinarily available to the outsider.
Through a game entitled, "Hello from Camp Ayandeh and Beyond!" students in both countries will create a visual diary of their lives in 8 photographs.

** AKSbazi has exhibited its work at the British Museum, SOAS, and Aaran Art Gallery, among others. Its founder, Haleh Anvari, was an exhibiting artist in IAAB's Transform/NATION exhibition, the first exhibition since 1979 to occur simultaneously in Washington, D.C. and Tehran in 2007.
